Highly Illogical Behaviour - John Corey Whaley

Highly Illogical Behaviour by John Corey Whaley

Solomon has been inside for three years and hasn’t left the house. He follows a routine of schooling online, watching films and he seems happy to stay inside. Enter Lisa, a straight A student, who wants to help him even if it is for a project (and her boyfriend, Clark) which prompts the start of an unlikely friendship.

I found the characters really sweet and the plot really interesting. I enjoyed reading about mental illness for a positive way. Of course it stops Solomon from going outside but he was not stereotyped as being attention-seeking and was not depressed all the time. I also found the other characters involvement with Solomon interesting.

It’s a really sweet book, great and easy read. I enjoyed the plot line and felt invested in the characters although I could have guessed the twists throughout the book. However, this didn’t stop me from enjoying this book. Only took me half a day to read and was perfect to get me out my reading slump.

I previously read ‘Noggin’ by John Corey Whaley, which although I enjoyed was a very abstract book (a boy who had just had a head transplant). I much preferred ‘Highly Illogical Behaviour’s plot and was kept engaged by the changing perspectives between Solomon and Lisa.
