Summer reading: Non Fiction Wrap Up

Over summer I read loads of books, so this post is in two parts. In total I read 32 books. This wrap up post is on the non-fiction books that I read over summer. I only read non-fiction in summer as its time off from studying for me at the moment and I find it hard to read non relevant factual writing while studying another subject in depth.

Firstly, I read a few books of general interest to me that were about anxiety or general self-help category. These were Question Everything (New Scientist), Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway (Susan Jeffers) and At Last a Life (Paul David).

Following this I finally got around to reading All I Know Now (Carrie Hope Fletcher) and Reasons to stay alive (Matt Haig), which were more on the memoir style of the genre with some tips and Haig’s writing was particularly poignant with short chapters that really described what it’s like to live with depression. I also dabbled in feminist literature with Girls will be girls (Emer O’Toole).
On more of a scientific front I read Neurotribes (Steve Silberman), about autism spectrum disorders and Making up the mind (Chris Frith), about cognition and perception. Finally, I read The Four Dimensional Human (Laurence Scott) which was a popular science book about cyber-psychology and how the internet has changed an individual’s thoughts of the world.

I wanted to try to read some good books about different perspectives. I read how to stay calm under pressure and not stress about living a healthy lifestyle and be more balanced: No Sweat (Michelle Segar); The Pressure Principle (Dave Alred).

I have really enjoyed reading non fiction and in between studying I am definitely going to try reading more non fiction. If you have any recommendations or comments please leave them below
